August 18, 2017

A couple of reminders. First off, registration is August 21-24. Specifics regarding hours can be found on this webpage. Please contact us if you have questions. Secondly, school starts on Tuesday September 5, 2017.

We had a Board meeting on Tuesday the 15th. I would like to highlight a couple of things. The first, the Board voted to allow continuation of the cross country program in the fall. This will be a great opportunity for our students. Secondly, Board members have been reading the Book Leading with Focus by Mike Schmoker. The focus of this book is elevating the essentials for school and district improvement. We dialogued about chapter one. The focus is on achieving greatness through applied simplicity, clear expectations, focused leadership, and constant communication. We will be studying subsequent chapters at future Board meetings.

Board Chair Hamann and I attended the Dayton school board meeting to discuss the activities and athletics combine. We were able to agree on parameters and marching orders going forward. More to come on this.

If you have driven by Academy Street this week you may have noticed some big machines and a lot of work going on. As of this morning the sidewalk has taken shape and it looks very good. I am impressed by the expediency and the quality of the work. This sidewalk should be in place for many years to come. A special thanks to the people who access our cafeteria for the summer meal program as they had to enter and exit through different doors during construction phase.

That is it for now.
