LIFE MANAGEMENT SKILLS OVERVIEW:

Life Management is another high school graduation requirement.  The course content is geared for the junior/senior level.  Students learn and practice many skills that will enable them to function successfully throughout the rest of their lives.  Life Management Skills include components such as money/resource management, personal and career skills, insurance, consumer skills, living spaces, transportation options, nutrition, simple clothing repair, and tax forms.

COURSE GUIDELINES
(These are handed out on the first day of class)

REQUIRED MATERIALS:

I provide a consumable curriculum component that will be utilized throughout this class.  In addition, you will need to have 23 file folders, a pencil, pen and paper.  These materials should be brought to class each day.

BEHAVIOR:

This classroom should have a positive, supporting atmosphere.  I will not tolerate negative comments about, or directed to, other individuals.  Be courteous and respectful at all times!

This is a multi-functional room with a lot of equipment.  This equipment, as well as my desk, class record book, etc. are off-limits unless permission is obtained from me.

Anytime you come in to class late, without previously arranging it with me, I consider you tardy.

Although our breaks are short, this is time provided to use bathrooms and drinking fountains.  Think ahead!

All policies listed in your Student Handbook, including the Time to Teach program, apply within this classroom.

GRADING:

Attendance and participation are crucial to your learning.  It is not always possible to make up what you have missed.  Your grade will be affected by excessive absences and/or lack of participation in class.  It is YOUR responsibility to get any assignments you miss, or to do alternative assignments for classroom activities you miss.

I give daily points.  Those points are given for a combination of attendance, attitude, appropriate participation, effort and use of time.  Unexcused tardiness will mean daily points are forfeited, as does unexcused absences.

Any inappropriate graffiti on assignments will result in a 0 for that assignment.

I grade on a point system.  Each assignment, project, etc., is worth a specific number of points.  Your grade is computed by the percentage of total points you have earned out of the total possible points.

You may earn up to 150 points per quarter for extra credit.  These projects need to be arranged with me before they are done.  They can include such things as demonstrations, bulletin boards, reports to share with the class, setting up speakers, etc.

Due dates are set for each assignment.  Any late assignment will be counted down 30%.  Assignments that are more than two days past due will receive no credit.

Tests are 50% of the grade with daily work making up the remaining 50%.  Daily work includes your curriculum packet, supplemental sheets, group activities, daily points, etc.
