Next week, we will be taking a break from school and work to observe the Thanksgiving holiday. Usually, our thoughts turn to favorite foods, time with family, and watching sports. These are all great reasons to look forward to Thanksgiving; however, we shouldn’t forget to reflect on the Pilgrims, who made significant sacrifices that paved the way for us.
Consider this quote from H.U. Westermayer: “The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving.” The resilience and hope these individuals possessed during such trying conditions were remarkable. Even in the face of incredible hardship, the Pilgrims chose gratitude.
As we celebrate, let us honor the Pilgrims' mindset by reflecting on the many good things in our lives and expressing appreciation for the people in them. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.
