Free summer learning opportunities for 6th-12th graders

High School and Preston Hall “Extra Scoop” Summer Camp & High School Credit Recovery

 June 21st to August 4th 9:00-11:30 AM  | Breakfast & Lunch Provided

Waitsburg School District is excited to offer all our middle and high school students Summer Learning Opportunities during the weeks of June 21-25, July 12-16, and August 2-4. All of these are at NO COST!

Research on "summer learning loss" indicates that young people experience learning losses when they do not engage in educational activities during the summer. On average, students lose approximately 2.6 months of grade-level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months.

In an effort to assist parents in reducing the “summer loss of learning,” Waitsburg students in 6th-12th grade can choose to attend any of our summer learning weeks. Attend week 1, week 2, week 3, or all of 3 weeks!  Camp will begin each day at 9:00 a.m.  Students will report to Mr. Kiefel’s classroom at WHS.  Camp will end each day at 11:30.  Students are encouraged to come early each day for free breakfast served in our district cafeteria and also enjoy a free lunch each day.

The goal of the camp is to have students work for about 15-20 minutes on skill based activities to keep sharp for the upcoming school year. The activities are designed to be a review of material from the past school year and have been pulled from our current curriculum so they should be familiar to you and your child. This should also limit the time teachers have to spend “reviewing and reteaching” skills from the past year.   The second portion of the camp each day will be project based or focused learning for our high school credit recovery students.

Any parents/guardians interested in registering their student(s) for the Summer Learning program are encouraged to call Preston Hall Middle School at 509-337-9474 or Waitsburg High School at 509-337-6351.
