Waitsburg School District Families and Community Partners,

Our hearts go out to the families, students, staff, and community of Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas who are mourning in the aftermath of yet another school shooting.

Tragic incidents such as these can be upsetting and unsettling for students, families, and staff. Unanswered questions, frustration, and heartache fill our days due to such a senseless act. This may also spark anxiety about the safety of our schools. Be assured that the safety of our students and staff of the Waitsburg School District is a top priority, and is something that we commit to and foster every day. Nevertheless, instances of school violence prompt us to pause and reflect on our District's safety measures. Recognizing that there is no simple solution to school safety, we are reminded that it starts with caring for each student which is why students are and must always be our priority.

In times like these when our hearts break for a community of children miles away, I am reminded of the strength and support of our own community. We value the support of our families as we carry the responsibility to educate and keep our students safe.

If you have any questions or concerns about the safety measures in place at your child's school, please reach out to Mrs. Stephanie Wooderchak at the middle school/high school and myself at the elementary school.

Sincerely,

Mark Pickel

Superintendent
